Tenjin Matsuri Festival in Osaka

The Tenjin Matsuri Festival is the biggest festival in Osaka. The celebrations include a land processio, a boat procession, and then fireworks.

The land parade. When I am near the parade route, I hear women dancing. Too bad I miss it, because the rest of it isn’t as rowdy. Though, I prefer the music at this festival more than the one in Kyoto. It’s more mellow and sort of suspenseful.

The lanterns are covered in plastic bags. Chance of rain that day.

Similar to the one in Kyoto, they spin the shrine 3 times (maybe more) at the street corners.

After the parade, the participants head to the river and the boat processions continue up the river. For some reason, I think there will be fancy, decorated boats, but there aren’t.

There are a lot of spectators too. There are fireworks in the end too, but unfortunately, these spectators and I choose the wrong spot. Barely saw any smoke. I heard it was fantastic. :(

This is the type of boat I was expecting for the boat procession.

Much wider than a dragon boat.
