The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier

If you see the way I dress, you know I’m not a fashionable person. I can care less about fashion trends and brand names. My housemate’s mom once asked if flared jeans are back in style. The truth is I haven’t converted to skinny jeans. (Embarrassing, I know.)

It is a milestone decision for me to visit the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. Are the rave reviews just? Yes.

This post is dedicated to Jamie and Mariz, of many who appreciate fashion.

Date Visited: February 1, 2015
Note: This post is image heavy, because there is much I want to share!

The Exhibition

Although the exhibition has ended, you can still visit NGV’s website to read more about it.

Snap & Share, and JPG description.
I love how taking photos is encouraged in Australian galleries!

Fashion Themes

I go the week before the exhibition ends, which means it is crowded. I am not impressed, but I manage to stay calm and walk on.

Mannequins in blue room.
I am greeted by animated faces that are projected on to the mannequins. Some even talk.
Room with red curtains. Looking up from the first level.
Then I go to a room that resembles a night club. I feel like I am watching a show.
Punk / rock n roll fashion, mohawks.
I am watching a show. The Punk Cancan theme room has a carousel runway (see previous post with gif image).

I’m beginning to appreciate this experience.

"... Art lies in the way the whole outfit is put together. Take Jean Paul Gaultier. What he does is really art." - Andy Warhol
Montage of photos and a quote. I agree with Andy Warhol, Jean Paul’s work is really art.

The Man Who Oversees It All

Model of Jean Paul Gaultier. Everythingisaussome, esp. Jean Paul Gaultier.

Fashion is not my thing. Put it in the perspective of art, and bam! I am thoroughly impressed. Extreme, crazy, and beyond wild. I like.
