Queenscliff makes for a perfect day trip. We walk from Point Lonsdale, along the beach, to Queenscliff, and then browse the little shops before walking back. It takes about 1 hour each way.
This walk reminds me of the South Dyke Trail in Richmond, BC, Canada (the River Road walk that goes all the way to Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf). They are relatively different but both are light trails next to a body of water that lead to little quaint towns.
This post is dedicated to Pat and Caybear, both whom I have enjoyed walks along River Road with. They would enjoy this walk as well.
Point Lonsdale
It is a bit gloomy when we start, with a light drizzle.
Queenscliff
Thankfully, it brightens up when we get to Queenscliff.
Best Meat Pies
Australia is known for their meat pies. I’ve never tried any, though I have had the Tandoori vegie pie from Pie Face. I like it but don’t think it’s the best pie I’ve had. I also think it’s inconsistent (or maybe it’s my level of hungriness), but the ones in Sydney taste better than the ones in Melbourne.
We pass by Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes in Queenscliff. They are officially judged as Australia’s Best Pie Maker 2013. It’s a pity they do not have a vegetarian pie. I try their really dry, disappointing vegie pastie, while Princess enjoys her meat pie.
Aboriginal art
There are many shops and galleries in Queenscliff.
Queenscliff Library
Queenscliff Maritime Museum
We pass by the Queenscliff Maritime Museum. It looks like it hosts some very interesting history.
Bushwalking
On our way back, we take the bush walk instead of the beach walk. It is a very nice walk. I’m not sure why my companions look this way:
Thanks ladies for a lovely day trip!
