You Yangs Part 2: Abseiling

You Yangs Abseiling

What is abseiling? I did not spell it incorrectly. There is such a sport. Opposed to rock climbing, which is an ascent, abseiling is descending down the face of a rock. There is also something called rappelling. It’s similar to abseiling except one descends facing the ground (walking forward) instead of facing the sky (walking backwards).

Boss, Karl, Princess and I signed up for a social coupon deal for abseiling at You Yangs Regional Park. The Big Rock descent is about 30m, and it is not very steep.

Ready!

The view from below. There are times when I do feel the height and steepness of this drop.

Karl is wearing a glove for the rope, much needed if you plan to go down at quick speeds. It burns.

We are grateful it doesn’t rain. Last time we tried to book for abseiling it was cancelled due to rain.

Boss descends with style. Easey peasey.

Do I recommend it? If you are mildly afraid of heights, yes, you should try this. If you have tolerance to adventure sports, then no, this location may not be much of a thrill. I would like to try rappelling one day. Apparently there are buildings at which one can rappel off in Melbourne.

Thanks for the great fun, mates! And the really random photos on my camera…
