Pop Quiz: Where is Perth?

Perth

Perth is in Australia!

And Singapore is in Malaysia, but its own country, geographically speaking. Okay, not quite, but looks like it on the map.

My seat neighbour on my flight to Perth asks me whether Singapore is in Malaysia. He is a little embarrassed not knowing the answer, but that’s okay, I didn’t know Perth was in Australia, until about two or three years ago did it stick. Hey, don’t judge. I betcha don’t know where Kalumbatutu is. (It doesn’t exist, I made it up.)

So, in October, I visit Perth for 3 days, 3 nights. I think it is plenty for just Perth, but if I were to stay longer, I definitely would’ve hired/rented a car and travelled along the coast for some scenic hikes.

Outline:

  • Evening 1: Arrive at Perth. Border customs find remnants of meat in my luggage. Earlier that day, silly me bought a curry bun thinking there’s no meat in it. When I see meat upon bite (because I’m vegetarian) I put it aside, prepare to trash it, but forget to do so. Lucky me, Customs let me off the hook. Find host accommodation, sleep.
  • Day 1: Explore Kings Park / Botanic Garden and City of Perth
  • Day 2: Explore Rottnest Island, Island of Quokkas (It’s not actually called that, but they may as well. They’re adorable.)
  • Day 3: Walk around the neighbourhood, have brunch, and fly home to Melbourne.

Day 3 is not too exciting so I will only feature 2 days. Here is Day One!

Pace: Adagio, at ease, slowly, because if you go too fast, you’ll see the City in all of one morning.

Kokoda Track, Perth. Almost everywhere I go, the Aussies commemorate the battle that happened in the Kokoda track, WWII. (In Melbourne, it’s the 1000 steps.)

Family photo, Perthians.
This family decide they want a family photo. The mum hides behind the tree.

This is Perth. More for living than for visiting. Have you been and what’s your impression?
