Byron Bay, 1 Hour Away from Gold Coast

Hipster Surf Town

Byron Bay is like a place inhabited by Mary Jay and Co.: young blood, budget travellers, surfers. I think we can rightfully call it a hipster surf town.

Shout out to Gigi, who recommended Byron Bay. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures in London/Europe. I also can’t believe it’s closing in on the one-year mark already (1.5 months to go).

Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk

The walk to the lighthouse is an absolute delight (and windy). It takes about 1 – 1.5 hours, including time for photos.

Byron Bay, the beach from afar.
Sunlight touching the waters ever so gently. Serene.
Byron Bay
A short, beautiful, easy walk.

The Most Easterly Point of Australia

Did I mention it is the most easterly point of Australia? They even have a permanent tripod for tourists to take selfies. User Experience: +1.

Aside: I also like the racks/slots designed for surfboards on the Gold Coast trams.

Byron Bay
Left: A public tripod, because selfie sticks are too cool for me. Right: Kite boarder.

The Lighthouse

Byron Bay, approaching the lighthouse with sunlight illuminating it from behind. Quite astonishing.
Some make this part of their daily exercise route.

Lighthouse up close. Lighthouse as we depart.

Fried Rice
Exceptional fried rice at Asia Joe’s. Despite there being “Asia” in its name, the cooks and servers were non-asian. In fact, a fellow Canadian works there.
