Fireworks in Yokohama

Summer is hot, but that’s also when most of the festivals are held. I present to you (with much thanks to Yumi for bringing me and Haruka for her recommendation), Yokohama Sparkling Twilight, a fireworks festival held in mid-July.

Yokohama is about half an hour away from Tokyo, a city that’s much less busy and offers a romantic vibe for couples.

The red brick warehouse in the background is iconic in Yokohama.

We wait patiently for the fireworks, which start at 7:30pm and ends at 8pm.

Some, mostly teens, dress up in their yukatas (summer versions of the kimono), traditional Japanese clothing. I don’t have a photo of this, but it is quite nice to see people so festive.

Some of the different fireworks. The most memorable ones for me blew up and floated in mid-air. Words cannot describe how amusing it was.

Myth debunked: not all Japanese sit down for fireworks. This man was in my way most of the time. Sigh~ But makes for a good laugh.
