Kinkakuji is a Buddhist temple, the exterior of the top two stories are made of pure gold leaf. People come here just to see the goldness of this temple. It is very gold, indeed.

A Note About Self-Portraits
I don’t take a lot of self-portraits, because 1) my mobile phone does not have the best resolution 2) I don’t like carrying a selfie stick around and 3) I don’t need to see my face on every photo. But friends request it, so on occasion, I’ll ask a stranger to take a photo for me.
The thing about travelling alone is that it is inconvenient to ask a stranger to take photos for you. Plus, you really need to be selective about your photographer. Sometimes, you ask the wrong person because he/she is the only person available. You get something like this:
I had to kindly request another because like… there is an UMBRELLA taking up 1/6th of the photo and the pavilion is covered by the tree!?
The second try, even though you hope that it will be better, isn’t. Ultimately you accept that it may not always turn out. Perhaps a low-res close-up selfie with my phone next time.
Note: One could also bring a tripod/selfie stick, but some attractions in Japan do not allow them! Like this one.
