In Kyoto, there is a place called Arashiyama.
It’s very nice, far away from the city centre and close to nature. I come here because of a photo I saw in my Lonely Planet book of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.
Of course, in the book, there are no other tourists, no mosquitoes, and the photo has been enhanced. (For the record, I edit my photos too.) It is a bit smaller and so a little less amazing than I thought it out to be.
Perhaps that’s why I don’t have too many photos for this post. There are supposed to be monkeys in this area too, but I couldn’t find them.
However, it is worth the visit because I come to Arashiyama for another reason as well… vegetarian food!!! Okay, maybe not as exciting for most of you. Wait for it…
I enjoyed the Bamboo Grove, but could really do without the people. The older I get, the less I like crowds. All of a sudden, I’m really appreciating the beauty of our WCT experience — pure nature, no pushy people. Can’t believe it’s been a year already!
Counter to what I said about the bamboo grove, I actually quite enjoyed being out in Arashiyama. Although there were many tourists you can still tell the town itself lives at a comfortable pace. And yes, WCT was a great experience.
Interesting to hear you edit your photos too. Ever consider doing a behind the scenes post about your gear and your process?
Even if it’s on your phone, it’d be good to hear about (unless it’s letting us readers behind the curtain too much).
I could do. Thanks for the suggestion Tony. I’ll keep you posted.
