Hokkaido in the Autumn, Japan

I chose to visit Hokkaido in the autumn because I’m not a huge fan of being in the cold. Hokkaido is known for its snowy winters, but turns out its autumn foliage is also a photographer’s paradise.

This trip with Shark to Biei, Furano and Sounkyo was somewhat early in the autumn (last week of September, 2016) so we caught just a glimpse of the foliage changing colours. Shark would’ve preferred to see it all yellow (probably in about 2 more weeks), but I was quite content with what we saw. If you ever go in the autumn when it’s blazing with yellow foliage, please send me photos!

I’d like to thank both MissC and KC for giving me tips on this Hokkaido trip. Thank you!

Some yellow trees
On the way to the natural outdoor hot spring, we were beginning to see the yellowing of trees.

Oh yes, I found online a quiet outdoor onsen free for the public. There were 3 people when we were there. One was a woman with clothes on. Shark and I had our bathing suits on.

Biei outdoor hot spring
Free outdoor onsen. You can see a small one on the bottom right. There is a slightly larger pool below it. I’d say the larger one fits about 10 people.

I think a beautiful landscape deserves a haiku, don’t you?
